About Us

about us May 25, 2024

I’m Sharell D. Cannady, the Chief Executive Officer of Docked Ships, and I created this space in 2020 for African American women who do it all—balancing careers, businesses, caregiving, and community responsibilities—while feeling stretched thin and overlooked. If you’ve ever been the one holding it all together on the outside while running on empty inside, sis, you are exactly who this movement is for.

Why Docked Ships?

If you’re a high-achieving, over-functioning Black woman, you know what it means to be the anchor for everyone else—pushing through exhaustion, silencing your struggles, and rarely pausing to celebrate your own wins. I see you because I’ve been you.

My work in mental health showed me that Black women’s struggles go beyond stress—they are deeply rooted in societal expectations, cultural pressures, and generational resilience. We’ve been conditioned to equate our worth with how much we can carry—but thriving shouldn’t come at the cost of our well-being.

The Mission

Docked Ships exists to help women like you take off the cape and prioritize themselves—without guilt. We create spaces where vulnerability is a strength, not a weakness, so you can breathe, recharge, and pursue success without sacrificing yourself in the process.

Our mission? To advance the social health and wellness of African American women through a structured, holistic wellness approach combining targeted education & strategic community—because thriving should be sustainable, not exhausting.

The Journey Here

I was raised by strong, determined women, and I learned early on that resilience is often mistaken for invincibility. My grandmother showed love through action, not words—teaching me that strength is necessary but can also be isolating.

This realization led me to study the Superwoman Schema, the relentless pressure Black women face to be everything for everyone. During my graduate studies and a pivotal internship at an HBCU, I saw firsthand how this impacts women’s mental, physical, and emotional well-being.

After 3,000+ direct service hours, deep research, and real-life experience, I built Docked Ships to help Black women redefine success on their own terms—free from burnout, exhaustion, and unrealistic expectations.

What We Do

Docked Ships isn’t just about personal empowerment—we understand that real change requires shifting systems. We're not than just a company, we're a powerful movement. We use:

🔹A STRUCTURED, HOLISTIC WELLNESS APPROACH: Culturally centered, holistic support in the form of wellness programs, services, and products that nurture the whole woman—spirit, soul, and body. We offer strategies that fit into busy lives without adding more pressure.

🔹 COMBINING TARGETED EDUCATION: Research-backed resources and expert guidance addressing stress, mindfulness, prioritization, and the cultivation of sustaining joy —helping individuals and organizations create environments that empowers Black women to flourish with well-rounded and fulfilling lives.

🔹& STRATEGIC COMMUNITY: We help organizations improve retention, efficiency, and workplace culture by aligning social health & wellness with operational success. We partner with organizations (and individuals) that African American women trust, as well as those who champion Black women’s well-being—free from the stress and unrealistic expectations of being 'Superwoman.'

This isn’t just about ethics—it’s a strategic advantage.

Research shows that Black women drive innovation, creativity, and stability in the workforce. Companies that prioritize their well-being don’t just boost morale—they see measurable gains in retention, efficiency, and profitability.

This isn’t about diversity and inclusion—it’s about winning. When Black women thrive, communities and organizations thrive.

Why This Matters

We extend our services to businesses and organizations where Black women are often the backbone of operations. Research identifies that Black women drive innovation, creativity, and stability in the workforce.
