Don't Give Them The Satisfaction
Hey Y’all, Hey! 👋🏾
Just rolling through with a quick PSA:
BLACK WOMEN ARE NOT CRAZY.
I know I’ve said it before… but I need to say it louder this time—for the folks way in the back who still ain’t heard it.
We are not irrational. We are not “too much.”
We are not broken.
AND WE DONT NEED MORE DISCIPLINE
So yeah, I’m gon’ keep saying it until it sticks.
Both the vibrancy and depth of Black women is unmatched. But —it comes with a heavy weight. The level of self consciousness that Black women carry could rival the Pentagon’s security system.
-
We even sense the slightest, most nuanced shifts within ourselves.
-
We say, “I’m just paying attention.”
-
We call it “being aware.”
But what if I told you…
It’s not what you think.
It’s self-criticism disguised as self-awareness.
Black Women Are Hyper- Sensitive
And I don’t mean crying and carrying on—though some of us do, and there’s nothing to be ashamed of in that.
But what I’m talking about?
It’s something different.
Let me break this down:
-
You FEEL and KNOW things about yourself on a very deep level.
- Therefore, you judge the awareness of the nuances as wrong
-
Meaning something’s wrong with you
-
You assume being attuned to differences means something is not "right."
But baby girl, listen close:
You are JUST DEEPLY PERCEPTIVE.
And there’s a name for what sense. Actually, there are many:
-
That pit in your stomach? That’s your intuition speaking.
-
That lump in your throat? That’s unspoken truth trying to rise.
-
That tightrope you walk to keep the peace? That’s emotional labor.
There are words.
There are frameworks.
There is science and soul behind what you experience.
No One Gave Us the Vocabulary
We weren’t taught how to:
Decode the tension sitting in our chest
Interpret the voice in our head that sounds a lot like our mama’s judgment
Name the sensation that hits us before the words ever do
Because we were taught to shove it down.
To push it aside.
All in the name of keeping things "normal."
So now, when we feel deeply—
We don’t honor it.
We judge it.
Let Me Say It Plain
-
You are not broken.
-
You are not crazy.
-
You are not doing too much.
- You don't just need to chill.
-
You’re simply uneducated about the beauty and complexity of your inner world.
And sis—that’s not your fault.
And We Need Resources
Black women need tools and support to:
-
Name what we feel
-
Navigate our emotions, sensations, and inner shifts without shame
-
Nurture our full being without apology
Because there’s an entire array living in our bodies:
-
Joy
-
Grief
-
Rage
-
Loneliness
-
Hope
-
And so much more
And none of it means you’re defective.
It means you exist.
It means you’re alive.
It means you’re present.
